Getting There

A new Operating System for Human Civilisation can’t be designed in a day. Nor can it be designed by a small team. In fact, it is probably more of an evolutionary thing, emerging through thousands of local experiments where the most viable ones survive to spread their memes. 
That said, new technologies allow for new systems and we have quite a bit of influence as tool builders. Well-designed tools consciously created to benefit humans, nature and society over, say, maximise short term profits, can actually live up to such lofty goals.
These are the tools we aim to build and the effects we are designing them to have.

MAKING CIRCLES

Our journey begins with Circles, an open-source, pro-social platform designed to empower individuals and support communities by enabling broad cooperation. Through matching local needs with available resources, Circles serves as a tool for connection, self-governance and collective action in whatever direction the community may choose.

ACCOMPLISHING GOALS

Changing the world isn't easy. In fact, changing anything is difficult. To assist our budding changemakers in their efforts to have a real and lasting impact, we are introducing the Red Button Process. It is hands-on project managers support system designed to guide people that have decided that they simply can't accept the way things are and need to get serious about change. Also, nothing bolsters confidence and builds a sense of self like getting things done.

BUILDING IDENTITY

In an increasingly fragmented world populated by strangers, trust is a rare commodity. Establishing a meaningful and globally reliable and verifiable identity is crucial. Circles encourages the shaping of identity not rooted in the superficial metrics of the day but in service and appreciation. By valuing contributions over popularity, we nurture a solid and authentic sense of self and relationship, countering the negative impact of the more often than not detrimental social media that has defined our time.
By storing individual contribution history on the blockchain, we offer a verifiable tool for identity that actually speaks to the content of a persons character.

PAYING FORWARD

The Altruistic Wallet, a wallet which can only be used on someone else, offers a comprehensive and peer-to-peer way to support meaningful projects both locally and globally. This digital wallet not only offers a smooth onramp for regular donations but also stores your contributions, be they deeds, funds or other resources, making your impact visible to both yourself and to others. The goal is a distributed infrastructure for global contribution, connecting individuals through their actions, paving the way for a world where an ever-increasing pool of shared resources is allocated democratically, based on the needs of the community.

ENGAGING AI

AI will be hugely disruptive to our socio-economical system. If it is to lead us to a future of shared prosperity we will need the assistance of a Personal AI that is part coach, part confidant and part digital defender. An AI that has our best interests at heart, and can operate within a network of such AIs, increasing the likelihood of the most beneficial outcome, balancing the needs of us as individuals,  of our communities and of our species long term survival.
Circles and The Altruistic Wallet will offer a space to train such private models.

LEVERAGING LEADERSHIP

Much as our tools foster decentralized governance, they also seek to cultivate leadership through offering opportunities. Using Circles and The Altruistic Wallet, new leaders can emerge from within communities, their authority rooted in trust gained through competence and reputation proven through successful endeavours. These systems help to find, encourage and leverage the skills and talents of those most dedicated and valuable to their communities, offering new paths to shared security and prosperity.

BALANCING CAPITALISM

The Altruistic Wallet also lays the groundwork for the ultimate systemic change: community-owned businesses. Through using the wallet to fund local businesses that in turn return dividends into the wallet, a positive loop can be created where the shared economy grows instead of shrinking through increased profit taking. These enterprises prioritize service over profit, with any surplus fuelling further community projects or businesses, embodying a sustainable cycle of growth and support.

DEEPENING DEMOCRACY

As blockchain and adjacent technologies mature and supply chains become more traceable, we will, for the first time in human history, find ourselves in a situation of information symmetry. The buyer of a product will be as informed about its origin and production circumstances as the seller. This will make it possible for every purchase we make to become an informed decision and a vote for the world we want. With the support of beneficial open-source AI, we will be able to take the next step towards a dynamic and distributed democracy, moving us ever closer towards the world we collectively and consciously chose.

GOVERNING GLOBALLY

Through increased autonomy, security and prosperity at the community level along with a mycelium-like network of individual connections across the planet, enhanced by the trust and bonds forged through cooperation around joint goals, a new governance option emerges for us as a species. Where we in the past were dependent on handing over our votes to national representatives to make complex and brittle agreements between nations, most of which have proven singularity unequipped to address species-wide challenges, we could now arrive at a point where we can make these collective calls on a far more granular and individual level. Through trust and delegation of votes, the will and commitment of the global population can not only be heard directly but acted on collectively, with global actions taken on a local level, with full transparency.

A NEW OS

And here we are. With a new Operation System. One that is run from the bottom up. One that is bases on trust and verifiable identity. One that is built on individual choice, meets the needs of local communities and filters up to our global village. One that continually grows the commons and distributes the resources to where they are most needed and have the greatest impact.

It won't solve all the challenges we'll face, but it will be good enough for the next system to emerge within. 

What that system looks like is for someone else to figure out. We'll hopefully have passed the torch at this point into even more capable hands.
